So basically, everyone roundly rejected the Republicans in the last election. The entire country slid left. We knew this back in November, but now we also know that not only did the entire country slide left, every single demographic group followed – even among rich, old, white conservative church-goers! It was an across-the-board victory.

OK, but which country are you talking about?

That's funny, you pretending that you don't understand from a) the link, b) the party name c) the political situation d) the time of the election and e) the election results what country I'm talking about, even though you and I both know that there is enough contextual information for you to see which country it is. That way, it becomes a joke. And jokes are funny.

No, mostly it's funny because you don't mention the name of the country.

You say "the entire country" and call the inhabitants "everyone". Such a level of non-specificity would normally suggest that you're talking about YOUR OWN country, or the country you're IN. But you're not. From the contextual information it becomes clear that you're talking about the USA.

Which implies that on a psychological level either a) you're in the USA, or b) the USA is HERE in Norway, or c) the USA is EVERYWHERE in the world.

I'm sorry, but that's funny to me.

One could also take it to mean that d) the "HERE" of the INTERNET ITSELF is on American soil, which is even funnier.
